This is the story of a national treasure; one of the most significant of the country's meeting houses. Hotunui is visited by many thousands of people each year at Auckland Museum, and this book covers the history of the building, restoration and significance of this meeting house. It also provides a wider context of the relationship between Maori taonga and the institutions that house them across the last 80 or so years. The second half of the book takes a photographic 'tour' of Hotunui explaining the significance of the various parts of meeting houses in general, and the specific ancestors associated with Hotunui in particular. A wonderful resource for New Zealanders, particularly students, and a special memento for tourists wanting an insight into what is often their most intimate encounter with Maori culture.
