Writing Skills

The evidence-based approach to accelerating progress in writing Skills for Writing is a unique print, digital and training solution, developed in partnership with Professor Debra Myhill and her team from the University of Exeter. It embeds the principles of the Grammar for Writing pedagogy - trialled and proven to accelerate progress in writing significantly. Skills for Writing Student Pack contains one copy of each of the Student Books (Unit 1 and 2, Unit 3 and 4, Unit 5 and 6) designed to supplement the Skills for Writing suite of digital resources. - Each full-colour Student Book contains two of the six units of work, making it easy to use different units with different year groups. - Uses extracts from real texts to demonstrate the different effects that writers use and to model how grammar choices can create these effects. - Encourages students to explore the choices made by writers in real text extracts and to experiment with creating these effects in their own writing. - Teaches grammar in a contextualised way, always focusing on effects achieved, so students have a wider range of techniques with which to craft creative, effective texts. - Builds core writing and linguistic analysis skills required at NCEA Level 1.
